  • Sautéing is frying food with little oil in a pan with dry heat.


  • Baking and roasting involve dry heat cooking in the oven.


  • Grilling is another dry heat cooking method involves direct heat from above in an oven or below in a barbeque.


  • Simmering occurs after reaching the boiling point; the heat is turned down to keep the liquid just below the boiling point.


  • A stew cooking is combined solid such as vegetables, meat with liquid to form thick gravy using simmering technique or slow cooking.


  • Steaming is a moist heat cooking method using a steam.


  • Barbequing involved cooking with live fire using wood or charcoal most likely outdoors.


  • Pressure cooking is the process of cooking food under high pressure steam using water or other similar liquids above 100 C. The food is cooked in a sealed vessel called a pressure cooker.


  • Marinating is the process of adding seasoned sauce or liquid to foods in order to add flavour by immersing them in the marinade before cooking.


  • In bread making, you will learn when the dough has proven and how to knead the dough by hand.


  • Learn useful knife skills to cut vegetables or fruits.

Hello! I am Thabo Arop

I am the managing director and Co-founder of Arop Yor Ayik Educational (AYAE), a non -profit organisation. Our goal is to promote the advancement of education for the benefit of vulnerable South Sudanese children and young people in South Sudan and elsewhere.

Professionally, I am an Early Years practitioner with over 20 years’ experience in education and non profit. I worked in various educational settings and during that time, I participated in multiple cooking activities with children of different abilities which enhanced my perception towards them. My passion for cooking started at home which developed further over the years through many trails of different recipes from around the world. All these experiences are included in the Cooking Corner course.

How to make cabbage rolls


In this video , I am showing you how to stuff a cabbage leaf to make cabbage rolls. This similar recipe is called Mahshi in South Sudan and the Middle Eastern countries, it is usually made using peppers, aubergines/eggplants or tomatoes.

Making Akelo (South Sudanese handmade couscous)


Akelo is made of Sorghum or cornmeal flour which is transformed by hand into a couscous like meal. Akelo is served with fish soup or with any green leafy vegetables. It is the national meal known in the upper Nile region in South Sudan.
